Wooden Pattern Maker

As a craftsman who uses hand tools to make wooden objects I could potentially take on pattern making from time to time. These patterns could be used for making iron / brass / copper etc. castings at foundries etc.

Traditional Techniques

I use hand tools and traditional techniques - that is using good quality hand planes and hand tools to shape wood into accurately measured items using a variety of hardwoods. I can do a job without the use of any powered tools at all so long as the job is suitable for this.

Engineering Quality Measuring & Marking

For all wood-work projects I use engineering quality measuring and marking tools - such as engineering quality metal squares rather than woodworking squares (I do not find woodworking squares, even expensive ones, are particularly accurate). I also use an accurate straight edge to ensure the flatness of surfaces etc.

Requirements

From this I would be able to determine if I have the skills and time to do the work. If I felt I could, I would then give you a quote and timescale. As I regret that at busy times I can not take on all work that is requested it is best to contact me with an outline to initially.

If a job was to go ahead I would expect to be given accurate diagrams / drawings / measurements of the objects required, with an indication of any shrinkage allowances required in for example castings.
